Location Scouting: Sippling Crag and Raven Crag
As a landscape photographer, I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting locations to capture. One of the places that caught my eye recently was Sippling Crag and Raven Crag, two rocky outcrops overlooking Thirlmere reservoir in the Lake District National Park.
I decided to visit this location this last weekend in Early February, location scouting for an Astro photo i have in mind later this year.

I drove to the car park near the dam at the North end of Thirlmere, and followed the signposted trail to Raven Crag via Sippling Crag. Sippling Crag is a smaller and less visited outcrop, but it also offers a nice view of Thirlmere and the surrounding mountains.
The trail was well-maintained and easy to follow, but quite steep and strenuous in some parts.
Raven Crag is a popular spot for photographers, as it offers a great vantage point to capture the view over Thirlmere and the Helvellyn range,
From Raven Crag, I found a good spot to set up my tripod for a quick timelapse.
It being early February and with the sun starting to dip behind the hills, we started to make our way back down to the car.
I was very happy with thr day. i didn't get any stunning photos due to the light but i did successfully scout the location i wanted for my future shot. I think they are both great locations for landscape photography, especially if you are lucky enough to get good light.
This peak also relatively easy to access, as the trail is well-marked and not too long. However, you should be prepared for some steep and rough sections, and wear appropriate footwear and clothing. You should also check the weather forecast before you go, as the conditions can change quickly
I hope you enjoyed this blog post and found it helpful. If you did, please leave a comment and share it with your friends. Also, let me know if you have ever visited Sippling Crag and Raven Crag, or if you have any other suggestions for locations to scout in the Lake District. Thanks for reading and happy shooting!
